Already have Home Pause? Your household administrator provides the private connection profile. Downloading the app alone does not connect it to any home network.

Getting connected

1

Connect your household

Live use requires a compatible Firewalla box and a paired Home Pause bridge on an always-on home computer. The current release is intended for households with that bridge already configured.

Ask your household administrator for your private connection profile. In the app’s settings, choose the connection import option. Keep that file private: it grants access to your home controls.

2

Choose your favorites

Open People & Groups and star the entries you want on your main screen. Connecting an entry sets up a dedicated, released pause rule. Existing restrictions stay in place.

Choose a duration and tap Pause or Restore. While a control is active, its button changes to Cancel pause or Cancel allowance.

Common questions

Why does the app show demo people?

A fresh install starts in demo mode. Demo controls use fictional local data and do not change a real network. Import your household’s connection profile to switch to live controls.

What does Restore allow?

Restore temporarily releases supported internet-wide pauses and Disturb restrictions for the selected person or group. App and category filters remain active. Shared or overlapping restrictions that cannot safely be changed may prevent Restore from completing. When the timer ends, the restrictions that were temporarily released resume.

What does Cancel do?

Cancel pause releases the app’s dedicated pause rule. Cancel allowance ends the temporary allowance and resumes the restrictions it released. Neither action starts a new opposite timer. Other active rules can still restrict access.

How do I add a Home Screen widget?

Touch and hold your iPhone Home Screen, choose Edit and Add Widget, then search for Home Pause. Choose a small or medium widget. Touch and hold it and choose Edit Widget to select a person or group and a duration. The action button applies that duration in one tap; iOS may require you to unlock the phone.

Why does a widget say “Last known” or “Refresh”?

iOS controls background refresh timing. “Last known” means the observation is older; a control tap checks the current state before applying a change. “Refresh” appears when confirmation is needed, such as after a timer expires or a connection fails. The countdown itself does not confirm that a rule changed.

Why can’t the app connect away from home?

Your household bridge must be powered on, online, paired, and configured for secure remote access. Check that Home Pause can use cellular data. If the connection still fails, ask your household administrator to check the bridge and remote connection. Reinstalling the app does not repair the bridge.

Do device counts update when group membership changes?

The app retrieves the current membership from Firewalla when it refreshes. Tap the device count to view the included entries. Counts include assigned inactive devices and can include separate network identities for the same physical computer.

Can anyone with the app control my home?

The app download does not grant access. Live requests require your household’s private credential. Treat the connection profile like a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to use your household controls. If it is exposed, ask your administrator to replace the credential and reconnect authorized phones.

How do I disconnect?

In the app’s settings, choose “Disconnect and use demo” to remove the saved service credential from this phone. Disconnecting does not cancel active controls or delete Firewalla rules. Manage those controls before retiring a bridge.
